The economy is currently at a 26-year low. Unemployment is at 9.8% nationally and much higher if you count the under-employed.

Michigan is one of the worst-suffering States in the union with an unemployment rate of 14.8%. Even public sector jobs have been declining since 2005 in the face of constantly shrinking budgets. It is then no surprise, perhaps, that Michigan is seeing the first signs of a full-blown pirate infestation.

A man was boating on Lake Erie recently when another boat came along side sometime around 6 PM in the afternoon. He was then robbed at gunpoint before the scallywag absconded. Obviously, unless the government musters and effective patrol to protect the good citizens of our Northern coastlines, we could see raids from Detroit, to Cleveland, to Buffalo!

Now, this might be a single criminal driven to rob a fellow boater due to a poor economy, isn’t it also possible that Canada is using the recent market turmoil to mask the activities of privateers on the great lakes in an effort to disrupt the trade of this great nation?
